  1. Instructions for installing this cdrom into a wildcat BBS.

  3. - This will only work with version 3.5 - 3.9.  Please.
  4.  
  5. - You must NOT be shelled to dos.  Exit wildcat via alt-x, not f-10.
  6.  
  7. - BACK UP your \wc30\makewild.dat, \wc30\filearea.dat, and
  8. \wc30\data\allfiles.* if you mess up, you can copy over the new
  9. mangled filearea.dat with the backup version.
  10.  
  11. - Change directories to your default wildcat directory.
  12.  
  13. - Type:
  14.     COPY <your cdrom drive letter>\bbs\wildcat\ins.bat .
  15.  
  16. - This copies the ins.bat to your default directory.  You have to edit
  17. the batch file to tell it which cdrom drive letter you have.  That's
  18. the first line -- you shouldn't need to edit anything else.
  19.  
  20. Run the batch file by typing:
  21.     ins
  22.  
  23. This program will adjust the "number of file areas" in the makewild
  24. general configuration and install all the file areas and paths in
  25. makewild's file area configuration.  It reads the file \dirs.txt on
  26. the cdrom for area descriptions and paths.  It then creates a batch
  27. file that you run.  This batch file uses wildcat's 'wcfile' and
  28. installs the filenames and descriptions into wildcat's global file
  29. database.

  31. The install program asks several questions.  The first is the drive
  32. letter of your cdrom drive.  This is probably e: but might be any
  33. other letter.  
  34.  
  35. The install program also asks where you want this CDROM's directories
  36. installed in your directory list.  The recommended place is several
  37. directories after the last directory you have specified in makewild.
  38. (You want to leave room for expansion.)  
  39.  
  40. For example, if you have 100 directories specified with makewild, the
  41. program will suggest you install the new directories starting with
  42. area 101.  It will not allow you to overwrite directories you already
  43. have installed unless you give install the -f option.

  45. The -f option to the install program:

  47.     install -f
  48.  
  49. or the batch file:
  50.  
  51.     ins -f
  52.  
  53. will allow you to overwrite existing file catagories that already
  54. exist in your filearea.dat database.  If you are installing this disc
  55. over top of an existing disc of the same title, you might want to
  56. force the new descriptions over top of the existing ones.  For this
  57. reason, I STRONGLY recommend you consider leaving some blank
  58. descriptions after a CDROM in case future versions have more
  59. directories than the current version.

  61. I'm curious about suggestions for upgrading from one version of the
  62. cdrom to another.  How should I 'uninstall' the disc?  How do I
  63. remove descriptions from the allfiles.dat file?  Since you can only
  64. have one file with the same name, you would HAVE to remove these to
  65. install another disc with similar names.  ...as always, contributions
  66. from users are rewarded with free products.

  69. users to see these new file areas.

  73. If you want to just have one super subdirectory with all the files,
  74. you can use the 'files.bbs' file that's in the \bbs\wildcat
  75. directory.  The file with all the file descriptions in it is called
  76. allfiles.dir.  There's also a file in each subdirectory called
  77. 'wildcat.txt' that has the file descriptions in wildcat format.
